“The Woods is the second collaboration between the Norwegian design studios StokkeAustad and Andreas Engesvik, Oslo. The inspiration was found in the forests and the lights of the North. A tree changing colours and transparency through the seasons is a fascinating process which was captured in this glass object.

Our ambition was to work sculpturally – without any specific function other than the purely decorative. A renewed interest in the field of craftsmanship, tradition and new categories - has brought us into an area and expressions that we wanted to explore further. Thus, reducing the gap between industrial design and what we know as arts and crafts.

The unique, free standing glass sculpture The Woods, is a made out of hand blown glass. Each sculpture consists of seven trees – joined in two separate sections.”

Chilean design studio Losgogo used reinforcing steel and wood to build these items of furniture against the clock . Losgogo set themselves a three-week deadline and a restricted palette of materials to create their collection. “Polígono is a design project with three requirements: two materials, a method and a due date,” Nico Aracena, one half of Losogo, told Dezeen. Steel more commonly used to reinforce concrete was welded into angular shapes and painted bright colours, before sections of wood were added to complete the items.

Yeah, because sometimes the movie was ready to go, but life wasn’t ready. For instance, I had always written this movie to take place on the beach. It was called Blue Valentine, and it took place on the ocean. I called up Michelle and told her that Ryan was on board, and I said, Pack your bags, we’re going to California. And she said, I can’t. And I said, Why not? And she said, I promised my daughter I’d keep her in school, I’d tuck her in bed every night and drive her to school every morning. And I said, Look, there’s beds in California, and you can get a tutor. And she said, I can’t do it, I promised her. I understood, because I’m a parent and I knew she didn’t want to break a promise to her kid, so I hung up the phone and thought about recasting. Then I thought to myself, If she could just make that kind of selfless decision for someone else in her life over a film that she loved so much, then that’s the reason why she is the only person to be in this movie. So I called her back the next day and I said, I’ve got a deal for you. If I can get you home every night to tuck her in and every morning to take her to school, will you do it?” And she said, That’s the most generous thing anyone’s ever offered me. So we picked a place that was an hour from where she lived, and for me, that was a turning point, because the film was never about the place, it was about the people.

The Driver and Irene actually say very little to each other, primarily because Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan felt that their scenes should be more focused on the mood and refused to say many of the scripted lines. Mulligan summarized making the film as “staring longingly at Ryan Gosling for hours each day.”

For the past two years, on (almost) every fourth Saturday of the month, our apartment turns into a part-time restaurant. Sixteen to 20 people show up at our gate over by the Domino Sugar Factory, tucked under the Williamsburg Bridge, to eat with people they’ve never met. We call it Neighbor.

The first dinner was nerve wracking. We spent all week preparing. We went through the schedule over and over and over and over again. We worried about everything. Who would come? Will they think it’s weird? Will they like the food?
